High volume users have commented that the canvas handles well and represents exceptional value for money.

To gain certification the canvas was put through rigorous testing by  Colour Concepts in the Netherland , HPs independent testing partner who are world’s largest, independent state-of-the-art profiling and testing lab for the professional digital large format printing industry.

The tests are all objective and cover the following areas:

  • Image Quality including colour gamut and area fill uniformity.
  • Media Printer Interaction. This series of test cover marks, wrinkles , dimensional stability and rewetting
  • Image Handleability. This is the performance of the media when being handled and is tested for scratchability, dry rubbing , wet rubbing , water fastness and ink adhesion.

The testing is exhaustive and Photo Direct decide to submit the canvas for testing to provide a better level of support to our clients.

5 Reasons To Order a Canvas Instead of A Print

5 Reasons To Order a Canvas Instead of A Print

Photos should exist in more than megapixels — but which is the better option, a print or a canvas? Prints are undoubtably the most popular because of their affordability, but when it comes to making a statement on your walls, canvas is often overlooked. Here’s why you should consider a canvas before you order your next photos.

Look Ma! No Glass!

With a canvas, there’s no glass in between the image and the viewer. Canvas is durable enough that it doesn’t need that protective layer. When you get rid of the glass, you also get rid of the glare. That means canvas can be viewed at any angle and hung anywhere without getting a hotspot from any nearby lights. Of course, without glass, there’s also no fingerprint smudges to wipe off either.

The sides are already wrapped.

Without a frame, there’s also no interruption between the photograph and the wall. The sides of the image wrap around the edges, offering a bit of depth without the separation of a frame. There’s no frame colors to try to match to the decor either, it’s just pure photograph.

Texture offers a sense of depth.

Canvas is much different from the smooth surface of a matte or glossy print. Canvas has a sort of texture to it, creating a small hint of depth that a print simply doesn’t have. The weave of a canvas can help bring out the colors, textures and details in an image in a way that other mediums do not simply because there’s a bit of texture to a canvas. Think about it — photos in galleries are printed on canvas because they have a certain atheistic that says more art and less snapshot.

Canvases are timeless.

Styles are constantly changing — including frame styles. Canvases are always in style, while if you order a gold-colored frame, gold may be out in a few years. The style, whether that’s the color or the design of the frame, may not be just as eye catching as the first time you hang it a few years down the road. With canvas, that’s not the case.

Canvas is not as expensive as you think.

One of the biggest reasons most choose prints over canvas is affordability — but canvas often isn’t as expensive as most people think. When you factor in the cost of buying both a frame and the print, the price of canvas has a much narrower difference, since there’s no frame needed. While those images you plan to update every year are more affordable by swapping prints out of a frame, for the timeless favorites that will grace your home for years, canvas is often only slightly more expensive when you remove the cost of buying picture frames from the equation.

Prints are more affordable, easier to hand out to friends and come in a variety of sizes — but canvas often offers a better viewing experience, creating a timeless memory for your home with no glass or frame and beautiful texture.

3 Canvas Options that Are Friendly to Both the Earth and The Budget

3 Canvas Options that Are Friendly to Both the Earth and The Budget

Eco-friendly and wallet-friendly are often opposites, but there are some canvas options that can take on both descriptions with ease. Eco-solvent canvases are designed specifically for eco-solvent inks, together creating colorful artwork without the chemicals and fumes associated with traditional canvas products. Still not convinced? Here’s why you should consider eco-sol, along with our top three budget-friendly and eco-friendly canvases.

Why Eco-Sol?

But first, why choose eco-sol over a traditional canvas? While many eco-sol canvases can be used with a variety of different inks, they’re designed to be used with eco-sol ink. Traditional inks give off fumes that mean ventilation is often a necessity for printing indoors. Besides just being environmentally friendly, eco-sol eliminates the cost of installing a proper ventilation system.

Eco-sol inks are also a bit friendlier on printers, which means nozzles don’t have to be cleaned as often as with traditional inks. The benefits of eco-sol extend to the client too, since some inks can leave canvas with strong odors long after the initial printing.

Eco-sol is often the right way to go, especially for indoor photos and graphics — here are our top eco-sol canvas options.

Eco-Sol Latex Lightweight 190gsm

This canvas is made from 100 percent polyester, making it one of our most affordable canvas options. While affordable enough for printing multiple canvases, the Eco-Sol Latex Lightweight doesn’t slouch too much on quality. The bright white and matte coatings help bring out a brilliant color and quality to the image. Designed with high-quality materials, this canvas is also resistant to cracks, so mounting is no problem. The price and quality mix of this canvas makes it perfect for campaigns with lots of prints or simply printing affordable canvases.

Eco-Sol Latex Semi-Glossy Poly-cotton Canvas 380 gsm

This poly-cotton blend creates a seedless, moderate weave perfect for capturing that authentic canvas look without authentic canvas chemicals. The thick 380g weight makes it the perfect option for high quality prints. With a waterproof surface, this canvas won’t crack while framing and can be used with regular solvent, eco-solvent, latex and UV inks. The semi-gloss surface and bright white material work together to give the finished piece a polished look. A special satin coating not only helps the ink to dry quickly, but also allows for maximum saturation.

Eco-Sol Latex Premium Poly-cotton Canvas 380gsm

Not a fan of the glossed over look? This canvas is identical for the 380gsm Eco-Sol Latex, but comes with a matte finish. While still offering an authentic canvas with a seedless weave, this option won’t reflect light, so it’s perfect for photos that shine on their own. Keeping the poly-cotton blend, this canvas is great for using with eco-sol inks yet still sits at an affordable price point. With anti-curl and tear-resistant properties, this canvas is perfect for projects that need to stand the test of time.

Eco-sol canvases are affordable and come without the stench of traditional inks. Our line of Eco-sol canvas comes in 100 foot rolls or customizable lengths, with widths varying from 24 to 60 inches. And while they look wonderful on the walls, they’re also not so bad on the bottom line either.

What is a “Type II” wallcovering?

Type II wallcoverings are compliant with a durability standard for commercial wallcoverings.
Criteria include scrubbability, stain resistance, flame spread, colorfastness, abrasion resistance, and more. Testing is conducted according to the Type II ASTM F793 standard and test procedures.
The American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) established the standard with input from the Wallcovering Association. Type II is often a requirement when specifying wallcoverings.

HP wallpaper 1Installation and application of custom printed wallpaper

Make sure the wall is cleaned, prepped, and primed before attempting to install pasted wallcovering.
Optimum installation conditions are between 65 and 75° F (18 to 24° C) and 40-60% RH. For higher temperatures and relative humidities, allow more time for primer and paste coats to dry.
Lay out the area to be covered as appropriate for the image or wallcovering to be hung. Double check the pattern, color, and sequence numbering of panels to ensure it is correct.
Apply an even coat of adhesive to the backing of the wallcovering using a brush, roller, or pasting machine. Paste-the-wall is not a recommended application. When pasting several strips in advance, booking is recommended to ensure proper wetting of the backing. Fold each end
toward the middle, pasted sides together, aligning the edges carefully to prevent the paste on the edges from drying out.
Book the strips for a minimum of 5-10 minutes.
Do not crease the wallcovering, and avoid stacking multiple booked strips as the added weight could cause creasing.
Install wallcovering using a plastic wallcovering smoother, working out air pockets or bubbles.
Stop the installation if there is a question of panel colour matching.
Remove excess paste immediately with clean water and a soft cellulose sponge. Use the soft side of the sponge if there is an abrasive side. It will be difficult to remove paste after it starts to dry.
If following an overlapping method, use a minimum of 1 inch but preferably 2 inches.
After the adhesive has begun to set (approximately 20-30 minutes), roll the seams lightly with a seam roller as necessary. Avoid excessive pressure when rolling the seams to avoid squeezing out paste. Keep in mind that although the paste will seem fully dried after approximately 24-48
hours, it may take 1-2 weeks for it to finally settle.
